Financial Statement Preparation
Turns a trial balance into a complete, internally consistent set of financial statements — for-profit US GAAP, nonprofit, or income-tax basis — with footnotes, an automated tie-out, and the accountant's report that matches the engagement. It drafts; a CPA reviews and signs.

How it works
- Input
- The trial balance (current year, and prior year for comparatives), plus five facts: the entity and its type, fiscal year-end, basis of accounting, engagement type, and whether comparatives are needed
- What it does
- Confirms the trial balance is in balance before anything else → maps each account to its statement line → builds every statement as live formulas back to the account detail → drafts only the footnotes the facts and balances call for → produces the accountant's report for the engagement type
- What has to hold true
- The statements must foot, cross-foot, and balance, and every trial balance account must land on a line — a dropped or duplicated account fails the build. No footnote may state a dollar figure that doesn't tie to the statements. Missing client inputs become flagged placeholders, never invented content.
- Output
- An Excel working model with a live validation tab, and a formatted Word statement set with footnotes and the accountant's report
The part that makes it reproducible
Building blocks it runs on
Shared, independently tested components. They ship bundled inside this skill — there is nothing extra to install.
What you'll need to change for your firm
This runs as published, but every audit function documents things its own way. These are the places it assumes a house format:
- Your grouping schedule — which accounts roll up to which statement line (reusable year to year)
- Your statement and footnote formatting
- Your firm's report language for each engagement type
- Your independence documentation process for review and audit clients
